Acreo Swedish ICT (Acreo) is a research company, part of a group of institutes owned 60% by the Swedish Government and 40% by the Swedish industry. Acreo develops competence in electronics, optics and communication technology and has as a goal to turn research into commercially viable products and processes.

Acreo is also contributing to large European projects, such as ICT-OASE, and TERRAIN with analysis of business models for FTTH deployment and operation; as well as evaluation of different technology solutions. Acreo Swedish ICT has also been conducting high-capacity network technology studies for, among others, Ericsson, Transmode, Syntune, GfK, TCO, TeliaSonera. When it comes to broadband access, Acreo has accumulated state-of-the-art competence, in particular when it comes fibre access networks.

Acreo also drives socioeconomic studies to evaluate the impact of new ICT technologies on society. Such studies are made both in the context of major research projects, as well as projects on behalf of external organizations. Output from these studies have formed the basis of wider publications by the European Broadband Portal, the FTTH Council Europe, the OECD, the Economist Intelligence Unit, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Computer Sweden, RTI Brazil, and ZDNet Australia.
