Astrium Satellites, part of the EADS group, is a world leader in the design and manufacture of satellite systems. Its activity covers civil and military Telecommunications and Earth observation systems, Science and Navigation programmes, a wide range of equipment and the associated ground infrastructure. Astrium Satellites have a 50-year experience in communication satellites, has primed more than 100 geostationary communication satellites programmes and currently holds 25% of the commercial market. Recently, Astrium has designed manufactured and delivered: Ka-Sat for Eutelsat, the first satellite fully dedicated to broadband services operational since May 2011; HYLAS for AVANTI equipped with a flexible Ka payload and operational since March 2011; Astra 3B for SES providing both broadcast and broadband services in Ku/Ka bands and operational since autumn 2010.
Astrium will share its extensive knowledge and experience of satellite initiatives such as Twister co-funded by the EC deployed and operated 34 validation sites in rural areas throughout Europe combining satellite broadband services with wireless local networks in the domains of agriculture, education, community services, health care and e-business.
Astrium will contribute specifically to the development of a future roadmap for satellite technology. They will also participate in all round-tables, workshops and the conference and dissemination.
