As voice of European Regions, NEREUS (Network of European Regions Using Space Technologies) not only serves as an advocate for the regions in matters of space uses but also as a direct channel to regional users of space technologies (such as local authorities, SMEs, universities and research institutes and citizens). The network is the key interface between the regional level and national and European institutions. NEREUS currently unites 24 European regions and 40 Associate Members with the common objective to spread the use and understanding of space technologies across Europe for the benefits of regions and their citizens.

Further to this, NEREUS established a platform for:

  • enhancing the growing role of citizens in the development of European space policy and markets;
  • stimulating the development of space applications;
  • supporting regional players to get involved in European space endeavours;
  • mobilising projects and initiatives

Awareness raising and making regional space activities more transparent is at the core of NEREUS-activities, to quote just a few examples: “NEREUS Space Exhibition”: a mobile exposition showcasing regional examples of space applications, NEREUS-publications showcasing regional space uses, e.g. joint NEREUS/ESA-publication on 67 Copernicus uses in Europe’s regions, the e-catalogue on space-related training courses in the NEREUS regions.
